Money is one of the most common sources of tension in any marriage. Talking about it before the nikah may feel uncomfortable, but it can prevent many misunderstandings later.
Why money matters
Disagreements about money are rarely only about money. They are often about trust, security, priorities and expectations. Talking early helps you understand each other's habits and values.
The mahr
The mahr is a gift from the husband to the wife at marriage. The Quran says:
"And give the women [upon marriage] their [bridal] gifts graciously." (Quran 4:4)
Families sometimes have strong expectations about the mahr. Agree on it clearly and kindly, and make sure it is something that can actually be given.
